Learn Russian as a Second Language

St.Basil's Basilica MoscowLanguage learning products for Russian

Russian is one of the most widely spoken native languages in Europe with about 142 million people in the Russian federation speaking it along with at least another 100 million throughout the former Soviet Union countries and other countries where Russians have emigrated. The Russian language belongs to the Slavic group of the Indo-European family of languages and is one of the 5 official languages of the United Nations.  Russian has a reputation for being a difficult language to learn, and while this is true to an extent, it is not as complicated as Chinese or Japanese. One of the reasons for learners' trepidation with the Russian language is its use of the Cyrillic alphabet. In fact the script is not that difficult to learn and is similar to English in some cases; the Russian spelling system is actually must simpler than English.
